South Bay VW – Helping Kids Help Themselves

Helping kids help themselves. That’s why Rudy Erm, President of South Bay Volkswagen donated seven 2009 Volkswagen Routan Minivans to High Tech High. Each Volkswagen Minivan has dual sliding doors and mobile internet service.

High Tech High [HTH] began in 2000 as a single charter school launched by a coalition of San Diego business leaders and educators. Now with eight schools, five high schools, two middle schools, and one elementary school, located throughout San Diego County, HTH combats the twin problems of student disengagement and low academic achievement by creating personalized, project based learning environments where students are challenged to meet high expectations. HTH schools are designed to show how education can be redesigned to ensure that all students graduate well prepared for college, work, and citizenship. 100 percent of HTH graduates have been accepted to college, 80% to four year institutions.

High Tech High schools do not have public school buses, these students rely on carpools, staff cars, volunteers, and public transportation. With this donation of Volkswagen Routan Minivans, from South Bay Volkswagen, the students will be able to participate in Internship programs, college visits, sporting events, and field trips for service learning and community volunteer projects.

“South Bay Volkswagen and Volkswagen of America, a true member of the community, has gone above and beyond and we are truly grateful” states Colleen Green, Director of High Tech High Chula Vista.

“I am truly blessed to be able to give back to our community. In a time of extreme financial hardship, our schools, mainly our children especially need the extra support. As a father of two, I understand the value of a proper education. High Tech High Charter schools are leading the way of providing children with an environment that promotes learning and personal growth. A place that is safe yet challenges the students to explore and excel to their full potential” states Rudy Erm, President of South Bay Volkswagen.

“We applaud South Bay Volkswagen’s generous contribution to the community and are proud to be a part of it. High Tech Charter Schools, Welcome to the Volkswagen family!” Kevin Sellers, Sales Operations Manager of Volkswagen of America- Western Region.

It gives all the employees of South Bay Volkswagen great joy, in donating these Routans, along with the generous help of Volkswagen of America.
